There are two types of cases where you can send an executive or employee to a subsidiary incorporated in Korea. You must first determine the type of company incorporated in Korea and then choose which type of secondment visa to apply for.
- A D8 visa is granted to an employee who has established a foreign-invested corporation by remitting an investment of KRW 100 million or more. You must have a “Foreign Investment Company Registration Certificate”.
- In the case of dispatching with a D7 visa, an overseas corporation establishes a branch office in Korea and dispatches a branch manager or employee. If you have a “Certificate of Establishment of Domestic Branch of Foreign Company”.
Various types of secondments between headquarters and subsidiaries are possible.
- A establishes investment corporation B in Korea -> A can be dispatched from A to B
- A establishes an investment corporation B in another country, and later B establishes an investment corporation C in Korea -> Assignments can be made from A to C. Assignments can also be made between B and C.
To be granted a temporary worker visa, you must meet the following requirements
Investment Amount
- Depending on the amount of investment, the number of people you can send may vary. Roughly 1 person per 100 million, but not unconditionally.
- If you employ three Koreans full-time for at least six months, you can send an additional one.

For executives and senior managers, this can be demonstrated by a certificate of employment from the headquarters. For general employees, however, you must be an essential professional, which is defined as “a person with highly specialized and proprietary experience and knowledge essential to the research, design, technology, management, etc. of the enterprise.” You’ll need to provide documentation to prove this.
